Poljot: Brand Information
Updated 7 Aug 2008 by Editor, RussianWatchGuide.com Poljot watches are manufactured by the First Moscow Watch Factory. The factory began producing watches in 1930, and started using the Poljot brand name in 1961. Poljot watches are higher-end Russian watches and cost more than most Russian watch brands. An average Poljot watch costs around $300. Some gold President-series Poljot watches sell for upwards of $10,000. The Sturmanskie watch manufactured by the First Moscow Watch Factory has the distinction of being the first watch in space. In 1966 the First Moscow Watch Factory was awarded the highest Soviet award, the Order of Lenin, for developing the national watch industry. In 1992 the administration of the Russian president selected Poljot to be the rewarding watch from the President of the Russian Federation. In recent years, the First Moscow Watch Factory scaled back production. Some of its equipment was purchased by Volmax, a Russian watch company launched by ex-Poljot employees. Volmax now uses the term "Poljot" for some of its watch movements. The official site for Poljot is poljot.com
I have a POLET (Poljot) mechnical with Alarm but since it has been a gift I am not aware of its cost. It is a round model with Roman numbers without date. It has a leather wrist but the watch seems to be like gold. Is anyone aware of the cost? Thanks I can find no historical info on the 1970s POLJOT wrist-watch I have:
It is a "gold" coloured THIRTY jewel automatic winder with calender. There is no external identification that says it is automatic and recently a jeweller friend tells me therefore that it must have been a mistake during manufacture.
During the seventees, not relising that it was self-wind and after various so called UK jewellers charged me a silly amounts to keep it a few days and apparently to do nothing nor to tell me it didn't need winding. I then decided with nothing to lose, to open it and see what was wrong.
Nothing is wrong and mercifully it has NOT been damaged by overwinding. The longer I have it the more I like it because it is so unusual.
It works well but gains a few minutes a day. I cannot determine how it can be regulated or even whether it should be, so I'll leave it alone for now.
Anyone have some insight to its history and rarity please?
