Molnija: Brand Information
Updated 23 Nov 2008 by Editor, RussianWatchGuide.com

Molnija is a Russian manufacturer of mechanical pocket watches and clocks. The company was founded in 1947. Many of their clocks were produced for military use.

With the current trend toward extremely large wrist watches, some manufacturers have adapted Molnija mechanical pocket watch movements for use in wrist watches. One example is the Moscow Classic 3603 previously reviewed on this site.

Although some Molnija pocket watches are currently available on the market, it appears the company stopped production in 2007. (If you have more information on the current status of the company, please leave a comment below.)

Most buyers of watches are only keen on one thing namely, how much can these sort of watches fetch?. Before you find your expectations runs flat with disappointment, do understand that the editor has already stated that these watches were produced since 1947. The Swiss, Germans, Americans pocket watches were already in existence long before that. You can't really expect these Russian made watches to match in value. Remember that this is only a vintage watch and not antiques. Why don't we admire the beauty of the watch and appreciate the memories of Russian people living during that era of time?. Maybe these watches would appreciate in value another 50-100 years from now when it can be classified as antiques. By then, most of us would also have turned antique i.e. if we are still around.

I have an 18 jewel molnija pocket watch. The date on the watch is 1941-1945 On the front it says OTEYECTBEHHR BONHA with a star around it and the back says BEnNKAR OTEYETBEHHAR*1941-1945. Im not sure watch that type of watch would cost. The inside seems very detailed and the watch is in numeric numbers. Please if you have any more information on this type of watch, email me at jennsewy@yahoo.com

Sorry, the subject of the above post is "Rare Russian MOLNIJA pocket watch MILITARY SPACE FORCES"
Bob - Sunday, 5 July 2009, 16:34 GMT

On the surface it would seem such a watch would be knock off. However, I purchased one on ebay as a lark. Does anyone have any information on these specialty watches and whether they really were produced for members of the Russian Space Force on it's 40th anniversry? My Russian fiance feels it is ludicris to have the symbol of the Soviet Space force on one side and the creast of the Russian monarchy on the other since they are the antithisis of each other. I can be contacted at bdoyle@cleardatacorp.com. Thank you in advance for any information.

There was an article at Solod that said Molniya stopped production in October 2007.
